Doctorate in Administration

Course Structure

The Doctorate Course is divided up into the following stages:

I - Acquisition of Credits

  • two core curriculum subjects in scientific methodology (6 credits);
  • two core curriculum subjects in the area of concentration: organization and management (6 credits);
  • five elective subjects (15 credits);
  • follow-up seminar of knowledge generation (3 credits).
II - Qualification
Qualification requires oral debate in public colloquium of a thesis on a topic to be selected by the student from among the lines of research of the course. The oral and public colloquium of the project shall be prior to the end of the fifth (5th) academic semester.

III - Oral and Colloquium of Thesis
The thesis shall undergo oral debate in public colloquium by an examining panel of five (5) faculty members with doctorate degree, namely the thesis tutor, two (2) EBAPE faculty members and two (2) faculty members from outside the school.
The deadline for colloquium of the thesis is six (6) years after the student enrolls on the course.

Acquisition of credits

  • Students shall take no less than three (3) subjects per semester in the first three academic semesters;
  • The subjects required to acquire the minimum of thirty (30) credits shall be completed in a maximum of five (5) academic semesters;
  • Core curriculum subjects shall be studied at the course faculty;
  • A maximum of nine (9) credits may be studied from other course curriculums, subject to approval by the Doctoral Council;
  • Doctoral candidates shall submit their thesis outline prior to the end of the fifth academic semester;

  • Administrative Thinking II
Core curriculum subjects in scientific methodology:
  • Data Analysis I: Unidimensional Linear Models<
  • Research Methodology
Elective subjects for in-depth study in the area of concentration:
  • Organizational Dynamics
  • Teaching Methods and Techniques in Administration
  • Value Theory in Public Administration
  • Critical Social Paradigms and Organizational Theories
  • Decision-making Theory
Elective subjects for in-depth study in the methodological area:
  • Data Analysis II: Multivariate Linear Models
  • Data Analysis III: Models of Structural Relations
  • Research Development and Follow-up
Elective subjects for interdisciplinary knowledge:
  • Organizational Management Technologies
